WCG Queensland Qualifier Results

The Bunker was the venue and WCG.QLD State Qualifiers was the occasion. Over the weekend, gamers from across the board competed in a number of tournaments held over the course of two days. Up for grabs was autoberths for two CS teams, 1 WC3 Player and 2 UT3 players. There was also a number of invitational positions available for CS, Halo, WC3 & Guitar Hero 3.

I was looking forward to being in sunny QLD for a brief couple of days whilst the tournaments progressed, and it was good to see a number of familliar faces as well as putting a couple of faces to names I have seen online.

Guitar Hero 3 competitiors played it out in the depths of the bunker in a best of 3 competition. Over the course of the day we saw Xant and Lamb of Thunder secure invites for the national finals event. One of the Favourites, THFS came up early against Lamb of Thunder and was knocked out in a narrow 3rd song decider.

GameStah casters, MomoWang & Depz provided us with shoutcasting for the day. They did a great job and were fantastic at providing a heap of coverage of the day. It will be good to see the GameStah team in Sydney for the National Finals at Luna Park. To download the casts of the day, head to the GameStah website!

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks for everyone who came down to either spectate or compete. The final day took a while to finish, but thanks to Sam from The Bunker the day ran very well. I hope everyone had a good day & filled up on the stack of pizzas (which were all demolished within 10 minutes). :)

Thanks again, and see you all next time.

- Jake

Err, what? The GH3 comp was originally one invite, double elimination. I played and had a close loss to the one player there better than me, but I was fine with that at the time since it was double elimination. Then I'm told by someone that it's now SINGLE elimination. I have to pay $25 to play three songs and get knocked out in the first round, that's fucked. Whatever, the best player won and gets to go to Sydney. He deserves it.

Now I find out there's two invites in an unseeded, single elimination competition? That's fucking bullshit. What the FUCK. Not only do I waste my money because of a shit format, but I lose an invite that's all but guaranteed to go to me as well. Fuck off.

Care to explain why things happened this way?

THFS - don't get all arced up online buddy..

At first there was 4 players which could easily run a (very small) bracket system.

Then you came forward and someone else, which made it 6. impossible do to do

so there was 1 elim round then players all competed against each other to eliminate the 3rd player

the final two then played in a playoff.

i think in the final match - both teams weren't really playing properly.. They had both already won autoberths.

Then I came forward? I'VE BEEN SIGNED UP ON THE WEBSITE FOR WEEKS, WHAT THE FUCK?!? I also told you I was playing when you first asked who the GH players were, so don't give me that shit. If you're going to do single elimination have a method of seeding, how fucking incompetent are you? Choose a song, make everyone play it and record their scores. Order their scores and seed them from 1 to 6 accordingly.

1 vs 6
2 vs 5
3 vs 4

Three winners. Choose another song, everyone plays it. Best score gets a bye, other two play off to face him in the final.

HOLY SHIT, THAT TOOK ME ALL OF THIRTY SECONDS TO THINK OF! Maybe you should have actually put a bit of forethought into this instead of spending the night before at a casino, then rocking up on the day and coming up with that clusterfuck of a format. Were you actually trying to be as incompetent as possible?

How the hell am i supposed to seed people that have never competed in a GH3 competition before? Are you stupid?

You wern't even available to play before i did the seedings when people were warming up..

At least then i could watch people playing a little and see who was the best player. You were too busy playing in the cs competition for me to get you on to have a play.

and in response to that justin, there were no complaints from us about dead talking, we were at opposite ends of tb. eya received multiple warnings, we received 1.

we got beaten ingame fair and square and were not aware of whatever was happening outside of that.

i'm not normally one to criticize, but i fully back thfs on this one. to be defeated in a double elim, THEN get told it will be single elim AFTER you've already been eliminated is fkn slack.

plus he had been pestering you for weeks about the GH comp.

admittedly seedings are harder to do for an inaugural comp, but couldnt that be solved by round-robin play? its not like the GH comp went for that long anyway.

edit: the cs comp was fairly well run though, however i think doing the bracket up on the morning of was a bit lacky, as it didn't really help with things running on-time.

fuck my life

For your info sonny is the only one without citizen and when we win the finals we will need a 5th for Germany. Of course thats if we get to Germany by pointing at screens to locate the bomb in a 4v1 in the final round.

um steel, if sonny doesnt have citizenship (aus citizen) then he is not even allowed to play the nationals, LET ALONE the qualifier.

the only reason players like spitty/rumil/jac are allowed to play the quals and nats is because they ARE aus citizens and DO have citizenship. The reason they are unable to play the INTERNATS is because they have already represented a different country at wcg due to having DUAL CITIZENSHIP. (WCG rulings state you can only ever represent 1 country for WCG finals)

so technically, EYA shouldnt have been allowed to play the qual and should be disqual'd from the entire thing due to sonnyq not being a legitimate citizen.

im sure u cant wait for the finals, if ur still allowed to play that is (not sure how strict wcg/reazn will be on the rules, but if sonny isnt an aus citizen then u guys qualified illegitimately), looks like u'll need to be getting a new 5th m8!!

i really think THFS should get an invite / autobirth for GH3, since he is the only person people will cheer for.

Its all about THFS. and he grew his hair long just to fit into the rockstar stereotype.

THFS - again, i quote what i have said..

"You wern't even available to play before i did the seedings when people were warming up.. "

in regards to Australian citizenship required: I understand there are a lot of foreign players in Australian gaming, so I am not going to be too strict when it comes to qualifiers.. But come WCG National Finals - Any players who are not Australian Citizens will be allowed to play, but their team will not be able to win the flights to Germany.

My staff in the office will not have the time to be chasing up peoples australian citizenship when it comes to booking flights - So all team members must be Australian citizens and able to have an Australian passport by September the 1st in order for us to book their flights to Germany.
