After a brief hiatus from weekend competitions, Brisbane lanners can look forward to the return of the regular Sunday competitions with the introduction of the 'Any Given Sunday' series. Teams will compete in a one day only competition to see who is the most willing to fight for the inches that count. Join us as we take a look at some of the teams that are competing this Sunday, and even some of those that aren't.
Let me just start off by saying, the following team is so controversial, so contentious that one single writeup would not do, so we opted for two. Introducing Matthew 'What are you doing' Burton as the guest writer for the following piece.
Athletico – PeetyG kNyz Yaman peekay davio
BurtoN - Fresh off their Australia wide tour in Harvey Norman’s LAN bus and straight into an EPGL finals success, Athletico (formerly wuxia) will be looking to continue their success this weekend at Any Given Sunday and take home the gold. Beyond bringing home the cash moneys, It’d be safe to say that this team will be using this event as an important piece of their preparation for the upcoming community national. With usual suspect, Daniel Stevens (star of such feature presentations as Fizz Limited (2007), The Fizz Minimovie (2009), and co star with Mandy Moore in the 2002 box office smash; A Malork to Remember) unable to make it this weekend, a certain individual stopped waiting on a mountain top, pulled his dick out of the toaster and decided to come play some cs this weekend. You heard me correctly, after a brief Hiatus from 1.6, David ‘Dav!O’ Kaye will be sitting in for Athletico this given Sunday. Although this team does sport CS household names such as Dave and Yaman, I’d be watching PeetyG this weekend to light up the scoreboard. He’s one of three players in Brisbane at the moment who I’d say is really giving something special in the aim department. This combined with Nick’s thorough, composed leadership and RorykNyz’s sophisticated klingon fragging abilities, should bring ATH the photo finish. The game to watch this weekend will be their match vs SK.adlays if it happens in the bracket.
jimNeso – Athletico, probably the most successful team in the history of sponsorship negotiation has again like the mythological phoenix, risen from the ashes. Sporting a marketable name, and an enthusiastic approach, the machine that once dominated Gold Coast Siege LAN's comes fresh out of an EPGL Season 2 win and into the first Any Given Sunday competition, looking to emulate the roaring success of previous teams sporting one of Australian CounterStrike's most prestigious and respected names. Lacking the demonic fragging force of Daniel 'Fizz-e' Stevens, David 'Dav!O' Kaye has received the distress signal of the Klingon Warbird armada and is on his way. Do not be alarmed, their shields may be down but they are certainly not lacking any firepower, with every single member of this outfit capable of claiming MVP status. I believe the competition within this team will be what spurs them on in their endless pursuit of the LAN crown that comes with being declared as one of Elyium's MVPs. A predicted 1st place, but who said nothing could rock this boat?
SK.adlays – Sponny syliX Tcrane gonzo goomba
Something about this particular lineup seems familiar, I just can't seem to put my finger on it. The adlays of SK will be searching for the gold at the end of the rainbow.cfg come Sunday, provided they are on time. I have been told that these rookies will be looking only to outplay their opponents. How you ask? Simply by running circles around them, again and again aaaaaand again, but the fun doesn't stop there. Sporting the cookies and cream like combination of syliX and goomba, individually they are good but together they are way too powerful to comprehend, they will make a push for the finals. Captain Sponny will be moving his pieces around the board, while the increasingly vocal TCrane will be looking to get into his Empire State of Mind. Additionally, if Paul 'Menswear,Shithaircut,Singledad,LousySoftballPlayer' Gautam has his way, the team will be sporting DIY haircuts and be looking to produce a feature length movie of frags at the completion of the day. Predicted 2nd, but will be looking to take their seat on the throne of Elysium.
1uprising – burton bigben aspire crate exe
Like some sort of hell born hybrid demon, the merger of 1up and uprising may just prove to be more more successful than the coming together of Jay-Z and Linkin park, or could prove just as disastrous as the fusion of post hardcore and dance, thus resulting in crabcore. Whatever the result, they will be looking to be loud and proud on the day. Be prepared for big calls, big frags and big bait. With the ever flashed benzino looking to share some of the calling with the ever 80 decibel BurtoN, 1uprising should not fall short of ideas on the day, but be ready for a trip back into 2006. Word on the grapevine indicates that former MVP Matt 'crate' Radburn is out to avenge the loss of his title, and with him he has invested in the help of aspire and exe who will be sure to lemming into battle. When I say BurtoN and bigben will be calling for the team, I really mean crate, and when I say everyone will be fragging on the day, I really just mean crate. Predicted finish 3rd but will definitely seek to destroy sworn mortal enemies Athletico and SK.adlays, and then take them out to dinner after.
