GameArena S1 Finals Update With Jordan "Sacrifice" King:
Well, we find ourselves at the end of the second week in the GameArena Call Of Duty 2 finals series. So far it has been, as predicted, a hotly contested series. It has thrown up a few surprising results over the last two weeks, as well as some standout teams who will definitely be the ones to watch in the upcoming matches.
Round 1 - Qualifying & Elimination Finals - mp_toujane
Mynistry Gaming vs. Stargate Command - 1st Qualifying Final
This was the first qualifying final for the series and was built to be a game which could deliver a lot of action. Mynistry have proved themselves to be the standout team over the last few months, with the disband of Style they have definitely stepped up into that dominating position and ended up placing 1st on the GA ladder after a solid win over Style. Stargate Command kept a low profile for the majority of the season. Finishing in 4th after Style dropped, they definitely had the proposed line up to take the game to Mynistry. They had some solid wins over the season and looked to be one of the few teams who could take it to the Mynistry guys.
The match however was a lot different to what people had though. Although the final outcome of the match was still predicted; myN > sG1 [11-6], Stargate seemed to lack players at the crucial time of the season. With perhaps their most dominating player Orchard missing from the line-up, they were no match for the match hardened Mynistry team, who were lead by AND1. This match ended up being an easy progression through to the preliminary final for Mynistry where they awaited their challenger. Whilst Stargate Command moved on to the elimination final in round 2.
myN defeated sG1 [11-6]
3m Gaming vs. Excess gaming - 2nd Qualifying Final
Second qualifying final here and the old foes from CoD1 days were set to do battle head-to-head. This build up to this match was a little different to the first match, with Excess coming of a few bad losses and 3m having been undefeated for a long time, people were predicting a complete walkover for 3m. The whole season 3m were consistent, they had a few up and down times but seemed to have stepped up a notch leading into the finals, they finished 2nd on the ladder and were in a good position to make the final. Excess Gaming started out the season being a very dominant team, with quality players from CoD1 they were a force to be reckoned with in the initial stages. However, they seemed to start having a lot of internal clan problems, which payed dividends on their results.
Come game time though, Excess, with their newly formed line-up, was not having any troubles with their team. The match was very tight throughout, with 3m gaming holding a slight lead for the majority of the match, until Excess decided to knuckle down and catch up, taking the game right to the edge. 3m, to their credit were able to hold off the charge and ended up taking the match in what sounded like and absolute cracker. So we saw 3m move to a preliminary final and Excess move to an elimination final.
3m defeated xS [12-8]
United Front vs. idioSyncratic - 1st Elimination Final
This elimination final was shaping up to be one of the most controversial matches for the final series. Both teams jumping into the top 8 in the last week or two with big wins over clans, whom most would have thought, could not have lost. United Front, who ended up finishing an impressive 5th spot on the ladder, were relatively unproved going into the series. All of their players have had plenty of experience in other games, so know how to put together a team and ultimately a win. iSyn have been around the CoD scene for yonks and ended up scraping into the finals, finishing in 8th spot. These guys know how to play and have been around the game for long enough to know how to get a strat together and a win.
The match though, didn’t suggest this. United Front walked away with a big win. They had practiced hard and in the end deserved to win the match over iSyn, who seemed to be a little undermanned in the end. But as we all know when it comes to finals time there are no excuses when you’re dealing with the end of the season!
uF defeated iSyn [11-4]
Suspect vs. Team Immunity - 2nd Elimination Final
The second elimination final here and two of the most up and coming teams were involved. Suspect were only newly formed towards the end of the season, but no one doubts the pedigree and experience of their talented line-up. Their players know how to win a tight match and know how to bounce back during a match when the chips were down, they were going to be a force to be reckoned with. Immunity is a name which almost every gamer in the nation knows. Starting the season late, they power housed their way into the top 8 and had an impressive line-up moving into the match. This was going to be a big match.
And we weren’t let down. With probably the most exciting match of the round 1 match-ups, this game went round for round most of the way through. Both teams played very hard and had their chances to take the win away from each other. But as we know their can only be one winner and in this case it was Immunity who ended up taking the win in the match of the round.
iM defeated suss [11-9]
