"Any player who qualifies for the international finals that does not hold an Australian passport as of the 1st of September 2008, forfeits their position. In a single player game their position will be offered to the next place-getter with an Australian passport. In a team game their position will be filled with a player selected by the rest of the team. Teams must select a replacement player that holds an Australian passport on the 1st of September. This player must meet all age and other requirements."
Obviously foreign players are unable to get an Australian passport.

yeah but #41 that doesnt mean the best team will go, say for example EYA (sorry to use them as an example again) but say they win, and sonnyQ dominates with like +700 frags or whatever. They win the whole comp, he cant play and they pick up some misc burnt toast guy (cleary the team wont have the same chemistry) and when it goes overseas, it plays terrible we got flogged again and become the laughing stock of WCG again :S
yeah u had fun qualifing and whatever, but come nationals everyone should be australian and be able to produce a passport if required.

"keep giving your opinions guys - I'm watching"
i didnt even compete in this years esau, but i was at the qld quals, and most likely the national finals...
anything ive said is purely constructive im not quite sure what your comment means...
i hope it means your watching because u havent made your decision about wcg citizens... and your looking at what other people think. if buy "im watching" means your making some pyschological Hit List to screw people over, im worried lol.

imo if ur not an aus citizen you should NOT be allowed to play the aus finals (nationals) - from memory its been like this for years (not 100% though), no reason it should change now.. but even if it HASNT been like this, this is how it SHOULD be.
It's AUSTRALIAN national finals... why let someone play who isn't an australian citizen?

this debate goes all the way back to 2002. it had been a big debating point in 02,03 and 04. At one stage, australian residents (people on study visa's) etc were allowed to compete, thus players like radius, diablo etc had been allowed to compete at the qualifiers.
I believe in 05 it changed to the must be an australian citizen rule, due to the fact that 23 smoked us in the final of 04 with diablo, then he was unable to compete in the world finals and 23 got well and truly drilled. people werent happy about this at all...
so 05, 06 and 07 have all had the australian citizen rule in place and i believe it is the best decision. its all well and good to have these players playing the australian finals, but as someone else mentioned eariler the team that wins if they have a non-citizen, will often be half the team they are without the player.
imo it should be aus citizens only!

#48 - It means i'm listening to what peoples opinions and views are.
Rules are given to me as a guideline from WCG and I am free to change them as I see fit.. That being said, I do my best to mirror the international rules.

as has already been said the issue isnt just for the winners, if teams have non aus citizen players and dont win, the potential to knock out teams with full aus citizens would also be a sore point.

You shouldnt have players competing at nats that are not going to be able to collect on flights. THey should never be in there.

if you blocked out fucking radius for something like 4 years straight, no point rescinding the rule now
besides, its meaningless for the wcg to be the digital olympics (as they pride themselves on) if the representatives aren't actually citizens of the country they represent
edit: speaking of which, poor radz was never able to play at the wcg finals afaik (although in some cases they let him play at the qualifiers, which was strange).

i think its a pretty clear cut case, with the 2 obvious drawbacks of allowing non australians to play the national finals being:
1. the potential to knock out eligible full australian teams during the national finals
2. having the winners chop and change lineups prior to world finals, most likely ending in a bad performance.
as far as im concerned i cant see any advantages...
what is there to think about with this decision?

I will say it again for the cheap sheets, if they aren't an aus citizen they shouldnt be at nationals. It just doesnt make sense for them to be there and davio hit the nail on the head with the diablo example.
23 got fucking boned hard overseas and basically were the laughing stock of WCG I would really like to try and avoid that happening again.

Honestly do yourself a favour and make non citizens/previous represents/other ineligable competitors unable to compete unless they follow due course(become citizens, etc), it really is a diservice to elligable competitors and goes against the olympic spirit of fairplay for those competing to have ineligable compeitors play and impact their qualifying.
It really is unfair on a team/individual to be able to be knocked out by an ineligable team/individual. In a single player discipline, ineligable competitor wins through to final, now your in the situation of not only robbing the person he just beat of a chance to qual, you have a dead qualifier because the other player in the final gets a guarenteed win, now thats some intense stage viewing right there. In a team game, while its all well and good to say the best team will win, it only takes a second for someone to produce a piece of magic and shift momentum from one team to another in any team sport, which will effect the outcome of a game/tournament. An event thats meant to find the best representatives for the nation to compete on their behalf has to have eligible competitors only otherwise the qualifying process is faulty.
The history speaks for itself also '02, corefight with synergy/ichor/whoever they where at the time, win the event when ineligable, goes under the radar because the event was such a shambles anyway for the cs competition side of it. '03 non citizens allowed to play but not qual again, radius plays for bronx, they end up coming top4 from memmory, you've got a team that doesnt get out of groups to an ineligable team/player as well as a team that gets knocked out of tournament play by them. '04 the most well remembered occours, diablo mauls everyone up to the final, 23 knock a team out in groups, beat 3 other teams along the way. Thats 3 poor choices by event organisers/officials that have hurt the integrity of the event and what it stands for, aswell as prevent the eligible competitors being able to qualify in a fair environment.
This isnt some ruleing that doesnt apply and is flexible, theres genuine reasons its in place, and thats that this event IS the E-Olympics (yeah easy to laugh sitting at home reading ESAU but thats honestly how its promoted and how it is run and percieved internationally, and its a really great experiance as someone who has attended). Its nation representation, its not like you have ineligable swimmers competeing at australian qualifiers for the olympic team, oh sorry chap you where edged out of the final race by vandenhoogenband, who was allowed by quirk of the organising body to race at your swim meet for some reason, meaning you dont have a chance of qualifying now. How is it promting fairplay to have someone denied a chance to get closer to qualifying because of an inelligable player ruining his chance to qualify.
Take a leaf from every other world qualifier and adhere to the WCG ruling body ruleset of non eligiblle.....

.... players and if someone wants to compete let them become a citizen etc. because this is about finding the best representatives for Australia, and corrupting the qualifying process by letting ineligble players compete not only underminds the integrity of the event but is blatently unfair and not in the olympic spirit for those who have their qualifying effected by it.
You really cant justify DQing a team on fairplay rules like dead talking, then allow something as major as inelligble players knocking teams/individuals out of qualifying to be allowed. How is that in the spirit of fair play for those people, and how does that give you the best representative for the nation? It doesn't.
