Update 2:30pm by sommi

Hey guys it's 2:30pm and 1 game has been played. I'm on stage at WCG :)
Steam has not been running well as the internet is very slow here.
The reason why no games have been played is that Steam is not updated here @ WCG. 40 computers are trying to update Steam and get about 2kb/sec so there's a 2-3 hour wait (and steam cancels half way through)
Some offline mode computers have worked.
No games are playing and everyone gets kicked out at 10pm
Copying cache files over to replace the updates don't work.
Offline mode doesn't work either.
:(
Admins are considering a double elim. Which could mean teams who fly interstate could play an A seed team and then a B seed team and go out instantly.
Cyas

Update 3pm

The organisers of the event have decided to change the event to an 18 team double elimination event due to time constaints caused by troubles with steam updating and computers not working. The bracket and draw will be announced shortly.

Update 4:20pm

Finally after almost 7 hours of watiting and a changed structure the WCG Australian Finals are getting underway. The double elim bracket and seedings will be announced soon.

Update 6pm

Due to all spectators and media being kicked out of luna park, we will not be able to bring you any more coverage as it happens until tomorrow, we will try to get information off the players as it comes to hand. Thankyou to luna park for the convenience

"The WCG Committee have decided that they will NOT release ANY demos from the WCG National Finals Australia 2007 as they are pushing for the best possible placing for the team representing Australia (Team Sequential Gaming). This will prevent all other international teams from being able to counter-strat and interpret the skill of Australian teams.

Due to this, the demos will be released on October 7th, the day of the International WCG Grand Final."

How can you be so sure #55?

It isn't going to hurt to wait 40 or so days. :/

Given Australia's previous track record in international events, as stated, they need simple things like this done.

i dont know, there could be 5 jnsie's playing in the one team that might counterstrat every team at wcg finals so they are ready.

Top international teams are most likely going to brush us off when it comes to preparation for WCG, instead focusing on counter strating other top teams :/

it's not really the top international teams we have to worry about though, its the lower teams that we need to beat in our group to get through to the next round

lol if the lower teams in the group stages have any clue whatsoever they will be over here looking for demos. Not releasing them is a good idea. But yeah they could probably release all the ones not involving SQL.

Besides, if we don't take ourselves seriously, why should anyone else?

Given that Australian players do tend to play differently in comparison to other countries, maybe it would be a good idea to keep ALL demos from release. I know each team will always have different strats but it could maybe show bits and pieces of what Australian CS is about, no?

no one cares about aus 1.6. but you can still release all the demos not involving sql

your not going to do SQL many favors my not releasing the demos. They need the demos to review they're own game so they can patch the holes in it.

no teams are going to have a look at sql full stop. With aus not being a threat at WCG this year based on none of our teams we've sent in the past not doing anything on the international scence. SQL has to be the team looking at other teams and looking at past aus teams and see where they went wrong.

simply sql have to hope for a bit of luck to get a decent group, not teams like alternate attax and N69E etc. :P

now guys while you wouldn't expect many teams to go to the effort of watching them _before_ the tournament, imagine if sqL get past the first round or whatever then face a good team who know they're decent- then that team will be able to watch their demos and counter-strat them

I reckon you should release all the demos except those featuring sql

Say I'm in the Turkish CS team (good example from last year). I know we're not going to be serious challengers, but we'd like to have a shot at making it out of groups or at least having a respectable placing in the group. Damn straight I'm going to counter-strat every fucking team in the group *especially* the teams I think we might be able to beat.

This is the world fucking finals. These teams are serious business and it's stupid to think they aren't going to do everything in their power to do the best they can against every team. Come on, lets have some professionalism here.

Again, if we don't take ourselves seriously, why should anyone else?
