There is no point having a new PC if you're going to use XP. You won't be able to use all 4gigs of ram, nor will you be able to use directx10/11.

the only problem I've encountered with win7 to date is that updated nvidia drivers cap CRTs at 85hz, which may or may not be a problem for you

theres no point getting anything other than 7. i'm currently using xp still out of pure laziness, but one of the other pc's at my place is using 7 and its rad. once you get used to the interface (which is easy) then it's a breeze and works a treat.

Wow at considering getting a 9 year old OS (XP) on a new computer.

Also wow at all the people who were like Vista sucks but now are like 7 is awwsome. Vista and 7 are _very_ similar

Microsoft do "minor" and "major" updates between OS's. Vista > 7 is a "minor" update.

Serbz has a point, although there still is a fair bit of change.

Saying that, on a high spec PC windows 7 and vista SP2 would run very similar. On a low spec machine you would notice a bigger difference

that's why i said shows promise.. wait for 7 SP1. 7 will be G.

Especially for running servers, 7 is able to receive unix commands which if you know anything about running servers is a pretty big deal.

I'd still choose Win7 over vista any day though... I've been using it since the beta's and haven't looked back

im using windows7 32bit which i bought off itsnotcheating for $50.

Of course you'd choose Windows 7 over Vista, so would I, its newer, has improvements etc. However, Vista is not a dud, and it is not significantly different from 7 was my point.

If Vista was "the worst" then Windows 7 won't be much better.

Buy whichever one you think you need.

Look at the difference between product editions...

For most people Home Premium is enough, Professional adds Windows XP mode and some other business features and Ultimate adds other crap you probably won't ever need.

You can still get a student upgrade edition from itsnotcheating for $50 (Professional Edition), unti, March 31st.

To be honest serbz, I liked using 7 alot more than i liked using vista, vista felt a bit more sluggish. Not to mention 7 looks better
