yeah they were pretty much the same pw's a number or 2 different.

I was planning on calling the cops, but i was wondering if there was anyway to get into this persons acct as he claims he's saved all my information ie: credit card details etc. :/

phonecall to the fuzz buddy that shit is extremely illegal under the patriot act. fortunately, that same act means that the good ole us of a is under full-time, nationwide surveillance, both physical and network - the dude will probably get nailed quicktime unless he knows his stuff...which is p unlikely :)

#5 unless he managed to get mattyd's pw in a non electronic way!

anyway if he is saying he has CC info and you had that kind of info in your email (you shouldnt have!) then you should get onto the cops or cybercrime! (cops prob forward you onto cybercrime anyway)

oh yeah they will really care that your facebook got taken over :( poor guy you must be in shock at such a traumatizing event

Do the police a favor and don't waste their time with your stupidity they have more important things to worry about

Call your bank get a new card issued
Change your net banking password
Change any other password he has yet to takeover

Did you accept any files from him or go to any dodgy websites if so virus scan/clean install

Damn you could say it nicely instead of being an idiot about it.

MattyD i am afraid i read somewhere on that crimes division website (i think) that if they are over-seas there is nothing you/they can do, but if it was in Australia they could help. :(

actually fakeh, courts in australia will have jurisdiction as long as the alleged crime act committed has an effect within australia, be it persons or territory. sounds unclear, but there is precedent on something similar to here of some american punk being charged for hacking someone in australia. (case name and result eludes me right now)

that being said, they don't really take these sorts of low key cyber crimes that seriously here, and it would probably require substantial monetary theft or breach for anything before someone could be done about it in the criminal courts.

tell him you will hand over the $1500 in person

then get 7-10 aussies from the closest Australian pub (too bad there's no walkabouts in the states), meet up with the fat nerd and beat the shit out of him. Get his license out of his wallet, go to his house steal everything he has then take a turd on his carpet and tread it all through the house.

$0.02

chances are he targeted you because your from another country, and he doesn't think you will know the correct authorities to go to.

Chances are, you use internet on campus / either in your room or a lab of somesort. This is probably the easiest way i can think of to hack someone.

I would make a general enquiry to your campus security, about what has happened and give the name Tom Stanton. If you dont think his name is actually Tom Stanton, then tell him you will pay the $1500 and he will most likely give you his name.

Also if your on a scholarship for soccer, talk to the person that hooked you up, im sure they will give you some guidance.

Id say most likely, its some guy on campus who tries to pull this off with all the foreigners coz he thinks you have money to go to school there.

ps, if he proclaims to be the almighty hacker, then test him out to prove it, change your facebook and ask him to log in. If you do infact use a community computer or network for internet he probably just has a key logger on the pc/network.

call a friend up on the phone, and get them to log in and change password. id put money on him not being able to hack it.

no, all they need is something which sends screenshots back to them where the mouse pointer is .. onboard keyboard: Useless.

I heard some banks now offer a usb keypad thing which you just plug in when you're logging onto netbanking and u type it in on the standalone keypad .. supposedly it doesnt record keystrokes or something like that.

you type a sentence, then drag the letters into the password box. supposed to get around every type of keylogger apparently.

my business teacher had something similar to that, he had a little thing that looked like a tamagotchi and he pressed it and it gave him a random generated login code for his netbanking or some shit, so weird
