Headset head-to-head
Head on over...

Introduction

In recent years the gaming industry has exploded, and sales of games across all different markets has grown significantly. It is no surprise then that gaming peripherals have seen similar success. More than just game controllers and joysticks, research and development on devices such as mouses, mouse pads and keyboards have been invested in by gaming companies to keep up with the craze sweeping the globe. Gaming headsets are no exception, and the average gamer now has a wider selection than ever to choose from to complete their gaming setup.

Headphone development though is no new field and recent times have seen few breakthrough developments. Audiophile circles have long appreciated the benefits of headphones and as a result there are already products on the market that are matured, and of excellent quality. Not only are headphones ideal for gaming where speakers are inappropriate/unavailable they are generally considered superior as they make the game more immersive, enclosing the user in sounds of the virtual world.

Strangely enough though, there is a grey area between “gaming headsets” and hi-fi headphones. Originally gaming headsets were cheap accessories that could be bought for very little money. Headsets were basically low quality headphones with a microphone attached to one of the headpieces that made them convenient for in-game communications. Today headsets have developed features such as advanced cable and microphone management; others have lost the attached microphone completely, hence making the distinction rather blurred. It seems it has more come down to the company selling the product and their target market than the design of the product itself.

Everglide got a nice and comfortable design, which minds me of some kind street. Could be nice to wear it when you're out on the street and also when you're home. But that is the same with Icemat Siberia, got a cool and very special look. If I've to choise for gaming, I would choise Icemat Siberia. But I've never tried the Razer, but I don't think they're so good as Siberia. The sound and bass are so nice and the earcups are very comfortable.

I'm surprised that the razer headset did that bad does it really suck that much? I mean, sometimes the price and functionality / quality goes hand in hand but obviously not this time.. what a pitty.

Btw I have the SteelSound 4H and it's a pretty good alternative to the 5H v2 if you want to save some $$$. I've tried both and the sound seems similar and the mic's are identical.

My headset won, hah!

Anyway, I agree with you all the way. Icemat Siberia is the best all-round headset I've tried and imo it's one of the perfect bang for buck deals out there :)

Good to hear that the headset I've bought is the best when you're talking about gaming. I'm not using my headset so much for music but most for gaming, that's why I bought that lovely headset. Yet I haven't experienced any problems so I'm happy about my SteelSound 5H v2 - defintley.
